A recent study showed that each year there are as many as 600,000 eye injuries from sports-related accidents. Most of these injuries can be prevented if eye protection works properly. According to Health News Digest, the lenses in protective eyewear should be made of polycarbonate and meet ASTM standards for the sport being played. Common sports-related eye injuries include painful corneal abrasions and even penetrating injuries that could cause vision loss and blindness.
