A Montana Court has awarded the parents of a child killed in a car wreck money damages. The defective car seat at issue was manufactured and sold by Evenflo. According to the Chicago Tribune article, the Plaintiffs case included evidence that Evenflo knew the car seat had a problem in its design that could lead to the belt hooks breaking; however, they still chose to put in on the market. The total jury award is about $10 million including several million dollars in punitive damages to punish and deter the conduct of Evenflo.
