The last ten days have shown Alabamians how fragile life is and what is most important in life. Many people have lost loved ones to the tornadoes. Many have lost every possession they have worked so hard to obtain. But, in the face of this adversity, these individuals have shown GREAT resolve and fortitude.

In addition, this horrific event, has brought many people together. It reminds me of Bill Murray in Ghost Busters ("Dogs and Cats Living Together"):

Dogs and Cats Living Together

Or, in this case, Alabama and Auburn fans living together. All kidding aside, the number of people around the State who have come together in every manner possible has been incredible. Whether it’s giving money, giving clothes, helping with the cleanup, providing food and shelter, people have shown that they can overlook differences in order to help those in need.

In that regard, the attorneys in this State have also offered their services to assist those in need of legal advice. The Alabama Association for Justice has offered their services here; the Alabama State Bar has offered a Disaster aid Plan; and the Birmingham Bar Association is having lawyers volunteer their services. While many people look down upon attorneys, you cannot find a more philanthropical industry.

If you need any type of legal assistance, or if you know someone who does, call one of these organizations or fill out the form. The service is free. This is simply one way we can help and give back to our communities so that Alabama can begin to rebuild and recover from this disaster.
